Science Journals
Artfully Try to Boost Their Rankings
The Wall Street Journal
, June 5 -- John B. West has had his share of requests, suggestions and demands from the scientific journals where he submits his research papers, but this one stopped him cold. Dr. West, the Distinguished Professor of Medicine and Physiology at the UCSD School of Medicine, is one of the world's leading authorities on respiratory physiology and was a member of Sir Edmund Hillary's 1960 expedition to the Himalayas. Borders Fall for These Doctors
Los Angeles Times
, June 4 -- Hundreds of hospitals around the country are engaging in a new form of outsourcing — employing physicians abroad to assist doctors on staff — whether to confirm a preliminary diagnosis or make it themselves. (Quotes UCSD radiology resident Jenna Liu.) More

San Diego Union-Tribune

(Article written by Matthew Shugart, a political scientist at UCSD.) More

Pharmacists a First at UCSD
San Diego Union-Tribune
, June 4 -- Twenty-four students – 16 women and eight men – were awarded doctor of pharmacy degrees yesterday morning at the Price Center on the UCSD campus in La Jolla. More

(Farber is a UCSD Visual Arts Professor Emeritus.) More
