UPI, June 14 -- U.S. researchers say they have developed a "Smart Petri Dish" that can rapidly screen new drugs for toxic interactions. The UCSD scientists say the dish can also be used to identify cells in a patient's blood during the early stages of cancer. More

India West, June 16 -- When President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam addressed a standing-room-only audience on the UCSD campus May 31, he was there but he wasn't there. High-definition cameras at the presidential palace in New Delhi captured his image and the video signals were transmitted over a dedicated network of optical fiber stretching over 10,000 miles between the Indian capital and the La Jolla headquarters of the California Institute for Telecommunications and Information Technology.
