UC San Diego Visual Arts MFA Showcase

The UC San Diego MFA07 showcase will exhibit at the University Art Gallery.
The gallery is on the west end of Mandeville Center at UCSD.
Hours remain 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily, but closed for Veterans Day on Monday, Nov. 12.

Before fanning out across the arts landscape, 16 graduating master’s students from the UC San Diego Department of Visual Arts will first make a stop in Hillcrest.
“MFA07 @ The Egyptian” opens with a private view on Nov. 9 and to the public Nov. 10 at the new mixed-use complex The Egyptian, at the corner of Park Boulevard and University Avenue, in San Diego. The exhibition, featuring a range of media and representing the culmination of three years of advanced study, will run through Nov. 18.

The featured artists are Veronika Bauer, Carl Burton, Raul Cardenas-Osuna, Tanner Cusick, Sergio de la Torre, Evelyn Donnelly, Julia Dzwonkoski, Jocelyn Jacobs, Emiko Lewis-Sanchez, Sharon Levy, Patrick Miller, Patricia Montoya, Steven Rubin, Tristan Shone, Robert Twomey and Caleb Waldorf.
The annual showcase of work by Master of Fine Arts candidates is taking place off-campus for the first time.“This is a great opportunity for extending the boundaries of the university into one of San Diego’s most vibrant neighborhoods,” said Lesley Stern, chair of the Department of Visual Arts.
Recently completed by Citymark Development, The Egyptian is a landmark condo complex with retail units on the site of a historic Art Moderne movie theater. The exhibition “MFA07 @ The Egyptian” will use two of the retail units – 3818 and 3824 Park Boulevard – to showcase painting, sculpture, video and performance.
The Nov. 9 private view, from 6 to 8:30 p.m., will include performances by Emiko Lewis-Sanchez, as part of “Mobile Toy Theater,” and, in front of the preserved original façade, a piece featuring bicyclists and bells organized by Patrick Miller.
A 48-page illustrated color catalog will be published to accompany the exhibition.
