Acclaimed science fiction
author Kim Stanley Robinson will deliver a University of California,
San Diego Regents’ Lecture, "UCSD and Permaculture: A Science
Fiction Story," on Monday, April 17, at 7:30 p.m. in the Price
Center Theatre on the UCSD campus. Sponsored by the Department of
Literature, the lecture is free and open to the public.
Robinson is an alumnus of UCSD,
having earned a B.A. (1974) and a Ph.D. (1982) in English and American
Literature. He is the author of 14 books, including his landmark space
exploration trilogy, Red Mars (winner of the 1993 Nebula Award for
Best Novel), Green Mars (winner of the 1994 Hugo Award), and Blue Mars
(winner of the 1996 Hugo Award). A New York Times review of his novel
Antarctica said, "There is no finer writer of science fiction
today than Kim Stanley Robinson." His "Three Californias"
trilogy of novels set in Orange County following a nuclear war was
praised by The Washington Post for its ability to "celebrate . .
. the persistent joyful survival of human persons in the interstices
of the American juggernaut."
