9 "HEARTS & SCHOLARS" LUNCHEON HONORS SUPPORTERS
University of California,
San Diego Chancellor Robert C. Dynes and the UCSD Undergraduate Scholarship Council will
host a "Hearts and Scholars Luncheon" to honor scholarship supporters and their
student beneficiaries on Feb. 9 at 12 noon at the Price Center Ballroom on the UCSD
campus.
Entertainment at the
luncheon will feature singer/songwriter Valerie Formost and the student winner of the Rose
Formost Memorial Scholarship in Music. Valerie Formost, a resident of Rancho Santa Fe, has
performed with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra and has twice been an award recipient at the
American Songwriting Festival.
At the luncheon, Chancellor
Dynes will announce UCSDs "Scholarships for the New Millennium"
fund-raising drive. To ensure that the best and brightest students can afford to attend
UCSD in the 21st Century, the drive will have two goals:
To raise $5 million in
undergraduate scholarship endowment funds by 2003, and
To increase annual
scholarship awards from private sources to $1 million by 2000.
