UCSD ALUMNUS TO EXPLORE LATIN AMERICAN/LATINO/A TURF 
MAY 8 AS PART OF THE  DISTINGUISHED  ALUMNI  LECTURE SERIES AT UCSD

UCSD alumnus Marc Zimmerman, professor of Latin American Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago, will lecture May 8 at the University of California, San Diego as part of the Distinguished Alumni Lecture Series. The event is free an open to the public.

Zimmerman will talk on Transnational Memories: Deconstructing a Nomad Intellectual on Latin American/Latino/a Turf at 4 p.m. in the de Certeau Room of the Literature Building.

Zimmerman received a doctorate in comparative literature from UCSD in 1975. He has taught at San Diego State University and the University of Michigan and served as visiting professor at universities in Nicaragua, Argentina, and Puerto Rico. In addition to his duties at the University of Illinois, Zimmerman directs the Chicago Latin American/Latino/a Activities and Studies Arena (LACASA Chicago), an organization which promotes projects in local, national, and international academic and community contexts.

Zimmerman is the author of numerous publications in Spanish and in English. Among his books are Literature and Politics in the Central American Revolutions, U.S. Latino Literature, and Literature and Resistance in Guatemala: Textual Modes and Cultural Politics from El Señor Presidente to Rigoberto Menchú.
