Award Winning Poet Gary Soto To Present Workshop At UCSD

Poet Gary Soto, the author of ten volumes of poetry, will be the featured artist in a workshop aimed at elementary and middle school teachers and librarians on Saturday, January 31 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on the campus of the University of California, San Diego. Also participating will be Steven Potts, a children’s literature lecturer from the USCD Department of Literature. The free program is presented by the UCSD Center for Iberian and Latin American Studies and sponsored by a grant from the US Department of Education.

Soto, a native of Fresno California, was a 1995 finalist for both the Los Angeles Times Book Award and the National Book Award. His work has been widely published. Soto’s workshop presentation will focus on Latino literature, as will the talk by Professor Potts, who will lecture on Latin American children’s literature for the classroom.
