Renee Barnett-Terry, Ph.D., dean of Student Affairs, Revelle College at the University of California, San Diego, has been named to receive the Pillar of the Profession distinction by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) Foundation at its national conference March 10 in Boston.

“Barnett-Terry has had a substantial and impressive career in student affairs administration in Kansas, New Mexico and California,” noted Doris Ching, emeritus vice president for Student Affairs at the University of Hawaii. “Her contributions to the student affairs profession and NASPA are outstanding.”

The NASPA Foundation annually honors members of the profession who have achieved professional distinction as defined by donors and supporters, served in regional or national leadership roles in NASPA, and are recognized for their extraordinary service by colleagues, friends and students.

Barnett-Terry has served as dean of Student Affairs at Revelle College since 1993, holding oversight and leadership responsibility for some 3,800 residential and commuter students. “Renee’s distinguished leadership as dean of Student Affairs at Revelle College is well respected, highly commended and enthusiastically applauded by students, alumni, supervisors, colleagues, academic faculty and student affairs staff at UCSD,” Ching said.

“To be honored for doing what you love is truly special,” said Barnett-Terry. “I enjoy the work that I do with students and the higher education community.”

Currently a regional vice president of NASPA, Barnett-Terry has served on its board of directors, chaired both national and regional conferences, and participated in a number of committees, boards and programs.

Prior to coming to UCSD Barnett-Terry served as associate dean of students at the University of New Mexico, Albuquerque. She holds a doctorate in the foundations of education and higher education leadership from the University of New Mexico and a master’s degree in higher education and college student personnel administration from the University of Southern California.
