As a UC San Diego senior, she served as a volunteer at the Preuss School at UC San Diego. Today, Kelly Kovacic is not only a faculty member at the Preuss School, but she’s also won “teacher of the year” honors in district competition.

As runner-up to the first place winner in the district high school category, Kovacic will compete against 47 nominees representing elementary, middle and high schools for the San Diego County “Teacher of the Year” designations to be announced in October.

Kovacic went on from UCSD to get her master’s degree in education at Stanford University, and serves as department chair of social studies at the Preuss School.

“It is such an honor to be recognized by the Preuss School faculty and those at the district level,” Kovacic said. “I feel lucky to teach at Preuss and work every day with our amazing students.”
