SUBJECTS PROGRAM DIRECTOR HONORED FOR CONTRIBUTIONS TO
ETHICAL CONDUCT OF RESEARCH
Marky Pitts, director of the
Animal Subjects Program at the University of California, San Diego,
was honored with the Distinguished Service Award from the Applied
Research Ethics National Association (ARENA) at its annual meeting
held in Boston in March.
Pitts is the third recipient
of the award which recognizes individuals who have made a valuable
contribution to the ethical conduct of research and to the advancement
and professional development of their colleagues in the field of
research ethics.
Pitts' contributions include
those as a founding member of ARENA, president in 1992, Guidebook
editor and co-chair of the Public Policy Committee, as well as
numerous other activities which have influenced the area of research
ethics at the national level.
ARENA was founded in 1986 as
a national service organization for professionals concerned with the
protection of human subjects, the humane care and use of laboratory
animals, scientific misconduct, ethical decision-making in healthcare,
and other ethical issues pertaining to biomedical and behavioral
research. |
