LIBRARIAN AT UCSD TO BE HONORED Brian E. C. Schottlaender, university librarian at the University of California, San Diego, is being honored for outstanding professional achievement in cataloging by the American Library Association (ALA). Schottlaender will receive the 2001 Margaret Mann Citation from the Cataloging and Classification Section of the Association for Library Collections & Technical Services, a division of the ALA, June 18 at the ALA annual conference in San Francisco. Margaret Mann Citation committee chair Cynthia Whitacre said the citation is being presented to Schottlaender for "for his outstanding contributions to cataloging practice and for his leadership and commitment to cooperative cataloging." Schottlaender has served as chair of the Policy Committee of the Program for Cooperative Cataloging (PCC); serves as ALA’s representative to the Joint Steering Committee for Revision of Anglo-American Cataloging Rules (AACR), and serves on the editorial and review boards of the Journal of Internet Cataloging and the National Endowment for the Humanities Division of Preservation and Access. In addition to the
citation, the award consists of a $2,000 scholarship which will be donated
by Online Computer Library Center, Inc., in Schottlaender’s honor to the
library school of his choice. Schottlaender has chosen the School of
Library and Information Science at Indiana University, where he received
his master’s degree in library science, as scholarship recipient.
