Student Wellness at UC San Diego is a collaborative initiative which promotes student wellbeing and encourages balanced lifestyles with a holistic, preventive approach across multiple disciplines. Funds raised from “5% Day” will help UC San Diego provide support through Student Health Services, Counseling and Psychological Services, Recreation, and other programs which are designed to improve health and offer a wealth of option to help students manage stress and maintain positive and productive lifestyles.
“UC San Diego is academically rigorous and our students have high standards of success,” notes Karen Calfas, UC San Diego’s assistant vice chancellor of Student Wellness. “We help students to take care of themselves and their wellbeing, which in turn helps them to perform well academically, and will benefit them long after graduation.”
Maranda Maroe, a senior, is one of many students who have benefited from Student Wellness at UC San Diego. “College is one of the most significant transition periods a young adult will experience,” says Maroe. “With the support of the wellness services at UC San Diego, I’ve been able to manage my stress level and succeed academically.”
She adds: “From physical and social wellness programs to financial and occupational resources, UCSD has helped me build a foundation for a well-rounded lifestyle.”
Participation by faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends in Whole Foods Market’s upcoming “5% Day” on Wednesday, March 10 will have lasting benefits for UC San Diego’s students, who will become tomorrow’s leaders.
