It’s that time again—time to think of the perfect gift for that special graduate, the father who has everything, the bride and groom getting married in June or even the good friend whose birthday is fast approaching.  Once again, it is summer, bringing its plethora of festivities and gift obligations for each special event.

But, if you’re stumped for a gift idea, here’s an alternative that will truly make a difference: give a commemorative charitable donation to the nonprofit and educational organizations that mean the most to those at the receiving end of a gift.

“Philanthropic gifts in honor or in memory of loved ones are an excellent way to provide a lasting legacy for someone close to you,” said Juli Larsen, senior executive director of General Campus Development at the University of California, San Diego (www.campaign.ucsd.edu).  “Not only are commemorative gifts meaningful, there’s also the convenience of giving online—at the click of a mouse, donors can give a memorable gift with lasting significance.”

A charitable donation to a university or nonprofit organization that holds special meaning for your family and friends is the ideal, feel-good solution for all those whose closets are already brimming with gifts of years past.  Simple and satisfying, support of any size can help to assist the disadvantaged, fund research for disease treatments and cures, protect the environment and so much more.
