The eighth annual All-Grad Research Symposium, featuring works ranging from innovations in visual arts and literature to anthropology and philosophy to chemistry, biology, and political science, will be presented Friday, Feb. 8, in the Price Center at the University of California, San Diego.
The event is sponsored by the UCSD Graduate Student Association and the Office of Graduate Studies. It is open to the public.
Richard Feinberg, UCSD professor of international political economy and chair of the Global Leadership Institute at UCSD’s School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS), will be keynote speaker. Art Ellis, UCSD vice chancellor for research, will offer welcoming remarks.
“This year’s event brings together students from across the campus and from a wide range of disciplines to share their research with their colleagues and peers,” says Nick Saenz, vice president of the UCSD Graduate Student Association. “This symposium provides a fantastic opportunity to hear about work being done outside of individual departments and specialized areas of interest.”
Topics for the symposium include Culture and Growth through History and Literature; Adventures in Anthropology; Complex Decision-Making: Issues in Public Policy; Race and Society, and On the Wrong Side of the Law: Crime in Literature and Politics.
Among UCSD faculty participating will be Kathryn Davidson, linguistics; Christian Gonzales, history; Tom Conrad, chemistry and biochemistry; Emily Matthews, political science; Crystal Z. Campbell, visual arts, Peter Cook, biology, Zachary Brittsan, history, and Zhi Qiang Chen, structural engineering.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m. Feb. 8, followed by opening remarks by Ellis at 9:30 a.m. and the keynote address by Feinberg at 9:45 a.m. Sessions begin at 10:50 a.m. For further information on the symposium call Glenda Wheeler at (858) 534-6655 or Iris Ruiz at (858) 869-4332.
