BACKGROUND:

The humongous pumpkin will be dropped by a member of the Muir College Residents Council from the 11th story of Tioga Hall, the tallest building on the Muir College campus.

Weighing in at 650 pounds, the pumpkin is the largest ever used in the annual drop. Inside the pumpkin will be an assortment of individually wrapped candy which students scurry to claim. The pumpkin’s “splat” is measured each year. The largest splat in the history of the pumpkin drop occurred in 1995, when a 398-pound pumpkin spewed over 100 feet. The largest pumpkin in drop history was the 430-pounder of 2005, a slender 220 pounds lighter than this year’s monster.

The Halloween Carnival will include some free refreshments and the barbecue will include items for sale
