Miriam Michelle Million, a sophomore student at The Preuss School at UC San Diego, was named first place winner and awarded a $3,000 scholarship during an Investing Excellence Awards Ceremony sponsored by Coastwise Capital Group.

The scholarship contest required local La Jolla sophomores to write an essay on what they considered to be their top three most important goals after high school, and how they planned to invest their time and money toward achieving those goals.

Other winners among the top 20 finalists were Rachel Locke, second, La Jolla Country Day School, and Will Yashar, third, La Jolla High School.

The scholarship’s aim is to promote financial literacy among today’s youth by emphasizing themes of money management, wealth creation and personal financial responsibility, said Coastwise Capital Group CEO Scott Kyle.

The awards ceremony include guest appearances by Padres pitcher Chris Young and John deBeck of the San Diego Unified School District Board of Education.
