Safety Expo Highlights
Campus Preparedness Month
September 4, 2007
UC San Diego is promoting September – the anniversary of the tragic events of 11 Sept. 2001 – as Campus Preparedness Month, and students, faculty and staff are encouraged to take time to both reflect on, and prepare for, natural and human-caused disasters.
To help members of the campus community prepare for crises and emergencies, the Environment, Health & Safety Office will host the “Emergency and Safety Expo 2007” from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 13, in Price Center Ballroom B.
Speakers from the Red Cross, EH&S, Campus Police, and other groups will present information on being prepared and ensuring safety at work and at home.
“This is an excellent opportunity to review with colleagues and family what to do in the event of a disaster,” said Steve Benedict, director of EH&S and Risk Management on campus. “Please take this opportunity to learn more about what you can do for yourself and others to be ready.”
Benedict also notes that an emergency-response exercise – based on an “active shooter” scenario – will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 16, to test and improve the campus’ ability to respond effectively to a crisis.
