The University of California, San Diego moved to 6th place nationally among public universities and colleges in federal research and development funding, up from the previous year’s ranking of 7th, according to a recently released study by the National Science Foundation.
The study noted that UC San Diego expended a total $798 million for research and development during the 2007 fiscal year.
“Given the extremely challenging federal research and development budget climate, the significant increase in these extramural resources is a tremendous tribute to the strength of the research community here at UC San Diego,” noted Art Ellis, Vice Chancellor for Research.
