The University of California, San Diego has been named one of the nation’s top 10 “Best Values in Public Colleges” in the December 2008 issue of Kiplinger’s Personal Finance, the magazine’s editors announced today.

Selected from a pool of more than 500 public four-year colleges and universities, UC San Diego ranked 10th for academic quality, cost and financial aid, up from an 11th ranking in 2007. The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Florida and the University of Virginia ranked first, second and third, respectively. UC Berkeley and UCLA were ranked 12th and 13th.

The editors noted that schools in the Kiplinger 100 were ranked according to academic quality, including admission and retention rates; student-faculty ratios; four and six year graduation rates, and cost and financial aid.

Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine has been providing Americans with advice on managing their money and achieving financial security since 1947.

The University of California, San Diego is one of the nation’s most accomplished research universities, widely acknowledged for its local impact, national influence and global reach. A leader in climate science research, UC San Diego is one of the greenest universities in the U.S. and works with communities, governments, businesses and organizations to promote sustainability solutions throughout the region and the world.
