International Education Week Nov. 14-18

Nov. 14-18, 2005

  • The University of California, San Diego, will hold its first
    annual International Education Week Nov. 14-18 in an
    effort to enhance international awareness and affirm the
    critical role that international education and exchange
    programs play in fostering world peace. Among numerous
    events, open to the public, are:

Monday, Nov. 14

  • 5-7 p.m. An authentic British Tea featuring a talk by Gillian
    Martin Sorensen, senior advisor at the United Nations
    Foundation, on The US and the UN in the 21st Century.
    Tickets are required. Contact ihouse@ucsd.edu.
  • 8 p.m. A production of Bus Stop by Gao Xinghian, 2000 Nobel
    prize in literature recipient, performed at the Mandell
    Weiss Forum Theatre loading dock area. Tickets required.
    Cost $5.

Tuesday, Nov. 15

  • 6:30-7:30 p.m. Enver Hasani, Kosovo foreign minister and professor of
    International law at Pristina University, Kosovo, will
    discuss Self Determination in the Balkans.

Wednesday, Nov. 16

  • 11 a.m.-2 p.m. UCSD students from throughout the world will present
    their cultures, in the form of displays, music, food and
    dance, at an International Festival.
  • 4-5 p.m. Seminar on Survivors of Torture: A Large and Growing
    Invisible Population sponsored by Survivors of Torture
    International.

Thursday, Nov. 17

  • 12-1:30 p.m.  A talk by Dr. Robert Wilder, CEO and founder of
    WilderShares, on Investing for Climate Change: How One Academic Built Wall Street’s First Clean Energy Index.
