Press conference to introduce Marye Anne Fox, chancellor
of North Carolina State University, immediately following action
on her appointment as chancellor of the University of California,
San Diego, by the Regents of the University of California.
DATE/TIME: 4 to 4:30 p.m., Monday, April 12,
2004.
LOCATION:
Conference Room 111A, University Center.
Note: Limited parking will be available for media on Myers Dr.
in front of the Chancellor’s Complex, University Center.
BACKGROUND:
The University of California Board of Regents will take action
on the recommended appointment of Dr. Fox during a 3 p.m.
teleconference Monday, after which Dr. Fox will be available
to
the media. Joining her for the local appearance will be:
Robert C. Dynes, president
of the University of California.
David Miller, acting senior vice chancellor, UCSD.
Dr. Fox has served
as chancellor of North Carolina State since
1998 and previously was vice president for research at the
University of Texas at Austin. As one of the nation’s
most
distinguished physical organic chemists, she succeeds former
UCSD chancellor Robert Dynes, a physicist, who now serves
as UC president. Her appointment follows an intensive national
search held since Dynes’ assumed the presidency in October.
