MEDIA ADVISORY

EVENT:
Preuss (rhymes with Joyce) School@UCSD commencement for its first class of graduates.

DATE/TIME:
Exactly 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 30, 2004.

LOCATION:
Manchester Field, Preuss School at the University of California, San Diego. Corner of Campus Point Dr. and Voigt Dr. (See map
below.)

BACKGROUND:
The commencement for 55 graduates is the first since the Preuss School was chartered in 1998 under the San DiegoUnified School district as a public school that provides a tuition-free, college-prep education to low income sixth to 12th grade students whose parents are not college graduates. Members of the 2004 graduating class entered the school when it opened in 1999 as
eighth graders, and have achieved many significant benchmarks.

All 55 members have been accepted to college and will continue their education at either four-year universities or junior colleges. All have been awarded scholarships.

The graduation will start with 12 graduating members giving greetings in the 12 native languages of their families.

Keynote speaker will be Robert C. Dynes, president of the University of California.

ARRANGEMENTS:
Press parking will be provided in Lot 702, immediately across from the school on Voigt Dr.
