Preuss School Students To Compete In Atlanta
In National Robotics Championships April 21-23
By Pat JaCoby
A team of 19
students from the Preuss School at the University of California,
San Diego will compete for the Chairman’s Award at the
national robotics championships to be held in Atlanta, Ga.,
April 21-23.
The Preuss School students
recently won the regional Chairman’s Award, qualifying
them as one of 30 teams nationwide to compete in this category
in the national robotics competition. The Chairman’s Award
is considered the highest any team can win and was created to
encourage today’s youth to become scientists, engineers
and technologists.
Math and robotics teacher
Rob Mainieri will lead the Preuss School contingent, which includes
all grade levels and, Mainieri noted, more girls than boys.
Also accompanying the students will be three teachers, two parents
and three UCSD volunteer mentors.
Last year Preuss School
won the Southern California and National Championship Engineering
Inspiration Awards in the robotics competition.
