The Rady School At UC San Diego Opens Washington,
D.C. Office
By Keri Minehart
Today, the Beyster
Institute at the Rady School of Management at the University
of California, San Diego celebrated its new location in Washington,
D.C. Situated at the University of California Washington Center,
this office gives the Rady School the first UC San Diego presence
in Washington, and on the East Coast. The Rady School will have
access to national and international leaders, increasing UC
San Diego’s visibility outside of California.
With close proximity
to the White House, the Capitol and government agencies, the
Beyster Institute at the Rady School’s staff will continue
to interact regularly with its clients, from the Departments
of State and Commerce to companies and organizations throughout
the east. The Rady School’s focus on technology and the
life sciences is also well-served by this location, with the
region’s technology corridor nearby. In addition to staff
offices, there are meeting and training facilities that will
be used by the Rady School when doing business in Washington.
“Having a presence
in Washington will open new doors for UC San Diego in the capital
city and beyond,” said Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. “The
Rady School’s new office will provide the university with
new avenues for doing business for conducting research, securing
funding and educating students.”
“Our goal for
the Rady School is to have a truly global focus,” said
Rady School Dean Robert S. Sullivan. “Being in Washington
gives us access to business and government leaders on the East
Coast and internationally, which is imperative for us in reaching
this goal.”
“The Beyster Institute looks forward to serving clients
from its new home in UC Washington Center,” said Ray Smilor,
executive director of the Beyster Institute. “We will
continue to develop innovative proposals, promote the benefits
of employee ownership and expand our global work in entrepreneurship
and economic development.”
The Washington office
is the latest component of the Rady School expansion. The Rady
School broke ground in January for a state-of-the-art facility
on UC San Diego’s campus, with occupancy planned for fall
2006. In December, the university purchased the former SAIC
headquarters in La Jolla, using private donations. This building
houses the Beyster Institute’s California staff. Additionally,
the Beyster Institute at the Rady School has a global presence,
with an entrepreneurship center in Russia and additional centers
planned for Morocco, Bahrain and Kazakhstan.
The University of
California Washington Center is a multi-campus residential,
instructional and research center that provides students and
faculty from the University of California with opportunities
to research, work, study and live within rich cultural, political
and international heritage of our capital city.
The Beyster Institute
at the Rady School focuses on training, education and consulting
to advance entrepreneurship and employee ownership as tools
for building strong, high-performing enterprises worldwide.
The Beyster Institute serves as the key center for entrepreneurial
thought and activity at the Rady School and creates the only
such university-based center to integrate both employee ownership
and entrepreneurship. This partnership gives the Rady School
a true point of differentiation in helping to create a business
school of the twenty-first century.
The Rady School at
UC San Diego offers a revolutionary MBA program that grows innovators
into successful business leaders. Situated in San Diego’s
globally recognized hotbed of innovation, the school is uniquely
poised to offer access to both cutting-edge research and a fully
engaged business community. The Rady School presents an integrated
approach to business and technology and emphasizes cross-boundary
collaborations and joint degree programs with UC San Diego centers
of excellence in science, engineering, medicine, economics and
international relations. The Rady School draws upon UC San Diego’s
tradition of risk-taking and breakthrough innovation to recruit
the top educators and students in the world.
