Peter A. Diamond,
widely recognized as one of the nation’s leading authorities
on public finance, including the Social Security System, will
present his plan for saving social security at a meeting of
the UCSD Economics Roundtable, beginning at 7:30 a. m. at
the Weaver Videoconference Center on the UCSD campus. The
public is invited to attend.
Diamond, professor
of economics at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, is
respected by both theorists and practitioners for his “non-gimmicky”
approach to social security. His perspective reflects a consensus
drawing upon the last major reform of the system. 2003
President of the American Economic Association, the largest
society of professional economists in the U.S., Diamond will
speak to the Roundtable via videoconference and the full title
of his presentation is “Saving Social Security: A Balanced
