UCSD Oshler Lifelong Learning Institute To Hear Council Member Scott Peters On Strong Mayor Form Of Governance October 14

By Juanita LaHaye

District 1 San Diego City Councilman Scott Peters will address the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at UCSD, on Friday, October 14. The presentation will begin at 10:00 a.m. on the UCSD Extension campus at the Rubinger Center, Room 122, located at 9600 North Torrey Pines Road and Muir College Drive.

Councilman Peters, who chairs the City Council Transition Committee, will discuss the planned changes and their effect on the political life of San Diego. In January, 2006 the City of San Diego’s system of government will change from a city manager form of government to a strong mayor form. The City Council Transition Committee, which includes all Council members, was established to address the details associated with this transition.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UCSD is a self-directed, self-supported adult education program presenting a broad range of learning opportunities and operates as an integral part of UCSD Extension consistent with the high standards of the University of California. On average the program includes over 100 courses, tours and social events each year. There are no grade requirements – just the requirement to learn for pure enjoyment. To receive additional information about the OLLI program call: (858) 534-3409, or e-mail a request to rwilke@ucsd.edu or visit the website at www.icl.ucsd.edu.
