STUDENTS,
FACULTY AND STAFF
INVITED TO SEUSS BIRTHDAY EVENT
The
birthday of the late Theodor Seuss Geisel will be marked with the serving of
free cake and punch at noon March 1 outside Geisel Library at the University
of California, San Diego.
Students,
faculty and staff are invited to participate in the event which observes the
98th birthday of the world-famed author, creator of “The Cat in the Hat,”
“Green Eggs and Ham” and a multitude of other “Dr.Seuss” works.
Scott
Paulson and the Geisel Library Toy Piano Band will perform a brief concert of
Dr. Seuss tunes from The Cat in the Hat Songbook preceding the cake
cutting. During the day the chimes atop Geisel Library will ring out a special
tune commissioned by the library and composed by UCSD alumna Melissa Ehlers.
Two
giant balloon inflatables will mark the birthday celebration site.
Geisel
Library is named in honor of the late author and his widow, Audrey Geisel, of
La Jolla. UCSD received Geisel’s collection of drawings, notebooks and other
memorabilia following his death in 1991, and four years later Audrey Geisel
made a substantial donation to support the university’s libraries.
