Glynda J. Davis Appointed
to UCSD Diversity Position

Glynda J. Davis of the Student Affairs Office in the Jacobs School of Engineering has joined the UCSD Chancellor’s Office staff as director of Campus Diversity Initiatives.

Davis works with Associate Chancellor and Chief Diversity Officer Jorge Huerta developing and implementing diversity activities to benefit campus students, faculty, and staff. She also is the primary contact for the chancellor’s advisory groups, including the Committee on the Status of Women (CSW), Committee on Gender Identity and Sexual Orientation Issues (GISOI), and the Diversity Council. Davis will assist these organizations in their mission to achieve the university’s goal of a diverse, welcoming and inclusive community.

Davis has served in a variety of roles in the Jacobs School, most recently as a student affairs officer responsible for creating and supporting student personal and professional development programs. She has been involved with the Engineering Program and the Teams in Engineering Service Program that link students with community organizations and has had extensive contact with faculty, staff, students, industry representatives, and community members both in and outside engineering.

Davis has served on the UCSD Diversity Council and has participated at the state, regional and national level in the promotion of equity for underrepresented engineering students.

A graduate of Purdue University with a master’s degree in electrical engineering and a bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering, Davis is a founding member and secretary of the Concerned Parents Alliance of San Diego, which focuses on encouraging underrepresented students to pursue higher education.
