Rady School Of Management Launches Full-Time MBA Program
The University of California’s Newest Business
School Welcomes Inaugural Full-Time Class

By Keri Minehart

The Rady School of Management at UCSD today launched its Full-Time MBA program. The school’s inaugural Full-Time MBA students arrived on campus for “Pre-Term,” a week-long experience designed to introduce students to classmates and faculty and to prepare them for their fall coursework. The Full-Time MBA is a two-year program that provides a curriculum focused on management and leadership for organizations driven by innovation, specifically in the science and technology sectors.

“The Rady School is UC San Diego’s newest professional school, yet it has already made its mark on our campus and the community,” said UC San Diego Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. “The Full-Time MBA students will be here on campus daily, adding a new and exciting dimension to the entire campus community.”

“We are proud to launch our first Full-Time MBA program,” said Rady School Dean Robert S. Sullivan. “The Rady School will be among the best management schools in the world, and the caliber of students entering the Full-Time class certainly puts us in that category.”

“Being part of the inaugural Full-Time MBA class is a true honor,” said incoming student Michael Myles, the first person to accept admission to the class. “Knowing that I will help build a management school for the future is an amazing opportunity and I’m looking forward to it.”

The inaugural Full-Time MBA class is a diverse group of 60 students— 33 percent are international, representing all regions of the world, and 35 percent are women. The student body is highly educated— 28 percent of them have already earned advanced degrees in other disciplines, including eight Ph.D.s, and one M.D. 58 percent of students have academic backgrounds in science or technology.

The new Rady students have come from careers in industries such as telecommunications, biotechnology, technology, pharmaceuticals, banking, financial services and consulting. On average, incoming students have four years of professional experience, but the group represents a broad range of experience levels.

The second FlexMBA class also begins their courses this weekend. The FlexMBA program at the Rady School is a two-year executive MBA program specifically designed to meet the educational needs of working professionals, particularly those in science- or technology-driven organizations. It was launched in September 2004.

On Friday night Leo Spiegel, a successful venture capitalist and Rady School supporter, will join students, faculty and staff at a welcoming dinner and will give the keynote address.

The Rady School at UC San Diego offers a revolutionary MBA program and executive education courses that grow innovators into successful business leaders. Situated in San Diego’s globally recognized hotbed of innovation, the school is uniquely poised to offer access to both cutting-edge research and a fully engaged business community. The Rady School presents an integrated approach to business and technology and emphasizes cross-boundary collaborations and joint degree programs with UC San Diego centers of excellence: science, engineering, medicine, economics and international relations. The Rady School draws upon UC San Diego’s tradition of risk-taking and breakthrough innovation to recruit the top educators and students in the world.
