“Friends of the UCSD Libraries” to Hold
Annual “Dinner in the Library” September 15

By Pat JaCoby

The landmark glass and stucco Geisel Library will be the setting for the annual “Dinner in the Library” to be held Sept. 15 at the University of California, San Diego by The Friends of the UCSD Libraries.

Featured speaker will be Richard C. Atkinson, Emeritus President, University of California, who will be introduced by UCSD Chancellor Marye Anne Fox. Other speakers include Brian E.C. Schottlaender, University Librarian, and Kay North, President of the Friends of the UCSD Libraries.

Phemie Davis is serving as chair of the event, which begins with a 6:30 p.m. social hour. Cost is $150 per person, and all proceeds will benefit the collections of the UCSD Libraries. For further information call 858 534-1183.

The Friends of the UCSD Libraries hopes to reach $1 million in endowed funds for the libraries over the next two years. Funds raised are used to provide resources to meet the academic and research requirements of UCSD’s students, faculty and community members. The latter includes local residents, inter-library loan borrowers, and students from San Diego State University, Cal State San Marcos, and the University of San Diego.

The UCSD Libraries are the largest academic library south of Los Angeles, holding more than 3 million volumes. UCSD currently ranks in the top 25 U.S. public university libraries among the members of the prestigious Association of Research Libraries.
