UCSD Hosts Admit Day For Freshmen April 8
By Pat JaCoby
Some
15,000 admitted freshmen and their families will explore
the University of California, San Diego, and its resources
on Admit Day, April 8, from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
The event
is an opportunity for the Office of Admissions and Relations
with Schools to showcase the campus, its academic departments,
services and student organizations during the students’
important college decision-making period. The deadline
for freshmen to make their final decision to enroll
for fall, 2006, is May 1. UCSD received approximately
43,500 applications for 4,100 spaces.
The day
will open with welcome sessions led by Joseph Watson,
vice chancellor for student affairs; Mae Brown, assistant
vice chancellor of admissions and enrollment services,
and Randell Hernandez, deputy admissions director. Chancellor
Marye Anne Fox and Associated Students President Christopher
Sweeten will greet students at various sessions.
UCSD’s
six undergraduate colleges will then host overview sessions
designed to introduce students and their parents to
their college and its academic and extracurricular opportunities.
Each will host activities, including Thurgood Marshall
College’s festive annual “Cultural Celebration.”
“Admit
Day offers an exciting opportunity for admitted freshmen
and their parents to meet with our faculty, staff, students
and college administrators,” says Brown. “It
provides us a chance to welcome these students to campus,
and to show them why UCSD is such an outstanding university.
Students continue to tell us that their decision to
attend UCSD was solidified after having such a positive
experience on Admit Day.”
The event
will also include faculty and student services presentations
(such as housing, athletics and financial aid), campus
and residence hall tours, and an information fair with
academic departments, student clubs and student support
services.
