PRESIDENTS INITIATIVE ON RACE APPOINTEE TO SHARE EXPERIENCES, OBSERVATIONS
MAY 10 AT UC SAN DIEGO
UCLA lawyer-in-residence Angela E. Oh will share her observations and
experiences as an appointee to President Clintons Initiative on Race at 6 p.m. May
10 in the Institute of the Americas Auditorium at the University of California, San Diego.
"An Evening with Angela E. Oh" is being presented in conjunction with Asian
Pacific American History Month. A reception will follow her talk. Both are free and open
to the public.
The idea for the Presidents Initiative on Race was introduced by President
Clinton during his 1997 commencement address at UCSD. Oh served on that initiative from
June 1997 to September 1998. As an outgrowth of that effort, Oh has written essays,
including Moving Beyond Self-Interest, and a book, True to Ourselves A
Celebration of Women Making a Difference. She also lectures throughout the country.
Oh is currently a lecturer and visiting scholar, as well as lawyer-in-residence, at
UCLA. She also serves as a commissioner on the Los Angeles City Human Relations
Commission, a trustee of the Asian Pacific American Womens Leadership Institute, and
a board member of the Korean American Family Service Center, a domestic violence
prevention program.
Oh received her Juris Doctor from UC Davis. Previous activities have included serving
as president of the Korean American Bar Association of Southern California, a board member
of the California Womens Law Center and a founding member of the Multicultural Bar
Alliance.
"An Evening with Angela E. Oh" is sponsored by UCSDs Associated
Students Government, the Librarians Association Cultural Diversity Committee, the
Cross Cultural Center, the Womens Center, the Korean American Students Association
and the Chinese Students Association. |
