Carolyn Thorne, (858) 534-3750 The UCSD Career Services Center will switch from its current job listing service provider, Monstertrak.com, to NACElink, a new non-profit system powered by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE). Neil Murray, director of the UCSD Career Services Center, along with six other college career center directors, played a major role in initiating and designing this new system with NACE and DirectEmployers Association, a non-profit association of employers. “We developed this system to provide employers with an affordable, reliable, and easy-to-use service,” said Murray. “The new system also allows us to deal directly with employers rather than through a commercial third party.” Currently, 27 of the nation’s leading career centers are using NACElink including UCLA, U.C. Berkeley, Yale University, Stanford University, Purdue University, the University of Arizona and the University of Pennsylvania. Hundreds of other colleges have expressed interest. UCSD’s new system will become San Diego’s largest free and exclusive source of college-prepared job seekers. It will be the only job listing service offered to employers and promoted to students and alumni. UCSD enrollment in Fall 2002 included 19,088 undergraduates and 3,324 graduate students. The security of student and alumni information is another reason for the switch to NACElink. “Our new system will ensure the privacy of student and alumni data and will not subject our users to unauthorized promotion of commercial products,” said Murray. Employers may now begin to enter job and internship positions in the new system. The postings will be available for viewing by students and alumni starting May 6. Complete details, instructions and employer registration information are at http://career.ucsd.edu/rec/recruiters.shtml. The free job listings are for employers who wish to list their jobs only with the UCSD Career Services Center. Employers interested in simultaneously posting job listings with four top California Schools – UCSD, UCLA, U.C. Berkeley, and Stanford University – may do so on the same Web site for a nominal $60 fee. Employers who wish to list with multiple schools across the country may do so for fees well below the market standard. This also can be done in a single, online transaction through the UCSD Career Services Center Web site. For more information about NACElink and UCSD’s other recruiting services for employers, contact Andy Rabitoy, employer relations coordinator at the UCSD Career Services Center, at arabitoy@ucsd.edu or (858) 534-4501. More details about NACElink are available at http://www.nacelink.com. The UCSD Career Services Center, located in the heart of the UCSD campus on Library Walk, assists UCSD students and alumni with virtually any career-related issue. Programs and services include job and internship listings, job fairs, on-campus interviewing, career advising, career information and internship resources, networking events, job preparation workshops, professional and graduate school advising, and much more. Thousands of UCSD students seek internships, part-time jobs, and summer jobs during their college years to gain career-related experience. Employers who offer these opportunities help them gain a wide range of skills and knowledge needed in their fields of interest. The UCSD Career Services Center
has also seen a significant rise in the number of alumni using its services
since it expanded its alumni services in 2000. The Center serves alumni
of all ages who are seeking new job opportunities, changing careers, or
considering graduate school. Alumni may now receive the benefits of both
the UCSD Career Services Center and the UCSD Alumni Association for an
annual membership fee of $40.
