UCSD CHANCELLOR MEETS THREE EAST COUNTY GROUPS Robert C. Dynes, chancellor of the University of California, San Diego, will meet with three East County organizations June 7 in one of a series of regional visits held to celebration UCSD’s 40th anniversary. The theme of the anniversary observance is "giving back to the community," and Dynes will share news of UCSD’s East County partnerships and programs during a lunch meeting with some 90 community representatives at the El Cajon Community Center. Prior to the lunch meeting he will meet with all 20 East County School District Superintendents and Board Presidents and representatives from Grossmont and Cuyamaca colleges in an educational roundtable, also at the El Cajon Community Center. Following the lunch he will visit an eighth grade science class at Emerald Middle School. Participating with Dynes at the community lunch meeting will be Tom Robinson, El Cajon, Director of Facility Planning Services for the San Diego County Office of Education and a member of the charter UCSD graduating class; UCSD student Rebecca Valenzuela of Jamul and UCSD student Benjamin Lynch of Lakeside. Talks about East County partnerships will be given by Bronwen Anders, M.D., clinical professor of pediatrics, UCSD School of Medicine, who will detail work of the community health clinics in Lakeside, Alpine and El Cajon; Felipe Rangel, assistant director, Educational Talent Search program, who will discuss services of the program to 550 East County parents and students, and Ross Frank, associate professor, UCSD Ethnic Studies Department, who will talk about a tribal digital village for 18 Indian reservations in eastern San Diego county.
