UCSD’S GROVE GALLERY TO PRESENT A GLASS AND NEON TRIBUTE TO VALENTINE’S DAY FEB. 6 THROUGH MARCH 24

Heart Throb, a glass and neon tribute to Valentine’s Day, opens Feb. 6 in Grove Gallery of the Crafts Center Complex at the University of California, San Diego. A reception for the artists will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Feb. 14. The reception is free and open to the public.

Grove Gallery director Ron Carlson reports that among works carrying out the Valentine’s Day theme will be "a neon piece that will consist of an oversize neon fish hook with a pierced glass heart hanging from it." Other works by neon, glass and lampworking artists, he says, will be "a surprise," but all geared to the Heart Throb theme.

Among artists/crafts persons exhibiting works are Clay Logan, Buzz Blodgett, Patty Yockey and Carlson, glassblowing; Frank Varnell, Bret Daniel, Mike Stanley, Rick Umpierre, Brian Ferrin, Mike Letson and Mike Riley, neon, and Joyce Rooks and Patricia Lubin, lampworking.

In addition to creative and decorative works, the exhibit will include functional pieces and wearable art relating to Valentine’s Day.

The Heart Throb exhibition will be on view in UCSD’s Grove Gallery from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays through March 24. Grove Gallery is located in the UCSD Crafts Center Complex on the Revelle College campus off Eucalyptus Grove Lane. Gallery directions and parking information are available at the Gilman Drive information center at the entrance to the campus. For exhibit information call (858) 534-2021.
