MUIR COLLEGE MUSICAL ENSEMBLE TO PRESENT
ONCE ON THIS ISLAND APRIL 11, 12, AND 13 AT UCSD

The Muir College Musical Ensemble at the University of California, San Diego will perform Once on This Island at 8 p.m. April 11, 12, and 13 in Mandeville Auditorium on the UCSD campus. Muir College senior Joshua Dullaghan directs.

Once on This Island is a twist on the Little Mermaid, set in the French Antilles and with music running from whimsical to romantic to haunting. It is about love, commitment, and betrayal between a peasant girl with big dreams and a wealthy man who is hesitant to betray his delusions of class.

Once on This Island debuted off-Broadway in 1990. It received eight Tony nominations when it moved to its Broadway performances. Its creators, Lynn Ahrens, book and lyrics, and Stephen Flaherty, composer, also collaborated on 1998 Tony Award-winning new musical Ragtime, as well as My Favorite Year and Lucky Stiff.

The Muir College Musical Ensemble presents one musical each year. It is the only completely student produced and performed musical on the UCSD campus. It is funded by UCSD Associated Students, Muir Dean’s Office, Muir student organizations, Muir Parents Fund, founding Muir Provost John L. Stewart’s Humanities Fund, Council of Provosts, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Joseph Watson, KAPLAN, and the five college deans.

Tickets are available at the UCSD Box Office, the Muir College Center and at the door. General admission is $8; faculty and staff, $7, and students, $6.  For further information call (858) 534-3587.
