UCSD OFFERS
RENTAL LISTING SERVICE VIA THE INTERNET The Off Campus Housing Office at the University of California, San Diego is implement a free rental listing service that is a fast, convenient means for landlords to submit a listing via the Internet. The new service began April 2 and benefits both the San Diego community and UCSD students. The Off Campus Housing Office also is encouraging people near campus with an empty room to rent to a UCSD student. "It's really a win-win situation," said Roy Holiday, Off Campus Housing Office administrator. "People can take in around $300-$500 a month to pay those high energy bills and our students have a great place to live." Other benefits to housing UCSD students include companionship and sharing of household responsibilities. UCSD students have an excellent reputation as renters in the community. They are the top 10 percent of academic performers from California high schools. George Ward, a longtime San Diego landlord, said he prefers to rent to UCSD students, as "they are mature, responsible young people." The Off Campus Housing Program is a referral service that on average assists from 200 to 600 persons monthly in procuring housing arrangements. During the peak summer months the averages jump to 3,000 visits per month. The web site gets approximately 17,000 hits per year. Due to the increasing UCSD student population, housing service is in great demand. With this new Internet listing, hundreds of potential tenants will see rental listings 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Off Campus Housing
