APPLICATIONS FOR PREUSS SCHOOL AT UCSD NOW BEING ACCEPTED THROUGH MARCH 12

Applications for admission to the new Preuss School to be located on the University of California, San Diego campus are being accepted through March 12.  Students who will enter grades 6th, 7th are 8th in September, 1999, are eligible to apply.

Interested students and parents can obtain the applications at their local libraries, elementary and middle schools or the Jackie Robinson YMCA.  If needed, assistance with completing the applications is available by calling John Lien at 534-9756.

The first 100 students to attend the Preuss School will be chosen by lottery from a slate of student applicants who meet the established eligibility requirements.  These include (1) eligibility for free/reduced lunch program; (2) parents or guardians are not graduates of a four-year college or university, and (3) student demonstrates the motivation and academic potential to attend a competitive college or university.

The mission of the charter school is to prepare low income and educationally underserved students for admission and graduation from a university.  The school will be the first in the state to be located on a college campus. While the first students this fall will be housed in temporary quarters, a new high tech school facility is expected to be completed by 2000.
