APPLICATIONS FOR
PREUSS SCHOOL AT UCSD NOW BEING ACCEPTED THROUGH MARCH 12
Applications for
admission to the new Preuss School to be located on the University of California, San
Diego campus are being accepted through March 12. Students who will enter grades 6th,
7th are 8th in September, 1999, are eligible to apply.
Interested students and
parents can obtain the applications at their local libraries, elementary and middle
schools or the Jackie Robinson YMCA. If needed, assistance with completing the
applications is available by calling John Lien at 534-9756.
The first 100 students
to attend the Preuss School will be chosen by lottery from a slate of student applicants
who meet the established eligibility requirements. These include (1) eligibility for
free/reduced lunch program; (2) parents or guardians are not graduates of a four-year
college or university, and (3) student demonstrates the motivation and academic potential
to attend a competitive college or university.
The mission of the
charter school is to prepare low income and educationally underserved students for
admission and graduation from a university. The school will be the first in the
state to be located on a college campus. While the first students this fall will be housed
in temporary quarters, a new high tech school facility is expected to be completed by
2000. |
