UCSD HOSTS
"PREVIEW DAY" FOR PROSPECTIVE STUDENTS
Campus boasts a student population from throughout California
The University of California,
San Diego hosts Preview Day for prospective students and their
families, 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Oct. 28. Preview Day highlights UCSD
for high school seniors and prospective transfer students, and gives
them an inside look at campus life.
The purpose of the event is
to give students who are applying for college for fall 2001 an
opportunity to narrow their choices before the November 30 University
of California application filing deadline. Preview Day is co-sponsored
by the UCSD Office of Admissions and Outreach and UCSD Associated
Students. Activities begin on Library Walk. Parking is free.
Throughout the day visitors
have opportunities to explore the campus and attend sessions on
admissions (freshman and transfer), housing, the five undergraduate
colleges, financial services, and more. Presentations by faculty from
a number of academic departments will cover academic programs and
expectations. Separate application workshops and student panel
presentations will be held for freshmen and transfers, and Q & A
tables for one-on-one academic counseling are added features. Visitors
are encouraged to chat with representatives of student organizations,
academic departments and student services at the Information Fair, set
for 10:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Associated Students President Doc Khalegi
will also be on hand. Student-led campus tours will provide a closer
look at student life and campus facilities. A highlight of the day
will be piano performances in the Price Center Plaza by Cecil Lytle,
Provost of UCSD's Thurgood Marshall College, and professor of music.
"Preview Day is a prime
opportunity for students and families to visit with our faculty, staff
and students," says Mae Brown, UCSD's director of Admissions and
Outreach. "We urge everyone interested in UCSD to join us for a
day filled with interesting sessions, faculty presentations, campus
tours and fun. They'll get a glimpse of the excitement of student life
by simply strolling down our Library Walk. Visiting the campus has
proven to be a major factor in a student's decision to enroll at UCSD
if admitted."
Preview Day attracts visitors
from throughout California and beyond. UCSD's students hail from
throughout California, predominantly the urban areas of Los Angeles,
San Francisco and San Diego, and from the State's central valley.
For reservations, prospective
freshmen are asked to call the prerecorded number (858) 822-4236, and
transfer students, (858) 822-4844. For further information see the web
site of the Office of Admissions and Outreach (admissions.ucsd.edu) or
