REGENTS
EXPRESS SHUTTLE TO BEGIN SEPT. 27;
SHUTTLE CHANGES, FREE BUS PASSES ANNOUNCED
Transportation
and Parking Services (T&PS) announces additions and changes to the
UCSD shuttle services and a reminder of the availability of free bus
passes.
The Regents Express,
T&PS’s newest parking shuttle, will begin service Sept. 27. The
route will connect the new Regents Road parking lots with the Price
Center, Monday through Friday, approximately every seven minutes
between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. and approximately every 10 minutes between 7
and 9:30 p.m. After 9:30 p.m., the East Parking Shuttle will serve the
Regents Express stops every 12 minutes until 12:20 a.m.
The Regents Road parking lots
served by the new shuttle were built to offset the loss of parking
spaces due to the construction of two parking structure facilities on
the main campus. Until these new parking structures are opened in the
fall of 2000, parking is expected to be limited in these areas.
The Regents Express joins the
existing Loop, North Parking, and East Parking shuttle services in
connecting UCSD’s peripheral parking lots with the rest of the
campus during the academic year. Year-round business day service is
provided by four additional T&PS systems: Torrey Pines Center,
Scripps Institution of Oceanography (SIO), Campus/Medical Center
Hillcrest, and the Campus Coaster Shuttle. There is no charge to ride
UCSD shuttles.
Shuttle services affected by
changes include the Campus Coaster, Torrey Pines Center, and SIO.
Beginning Sept. 20, the Campus
Coaster Shuttle, which provides transportation between the Sorrento
Valley Coaster Station and UCSD campus locations, will serve campus
stops a bit earlier and confine them to the Gilman Drive area.
The Torrey Pines Center Shuttle
will start offering its round trip service every 15 minutes, beginning
Sept. 27. It currently runs every 12 minutes.
No time changes are being made
to the SIO Shuttle, but beginning Sept. 27, a new stop will be added
at Southwest Fisheries and, now that area construction has been
completed, the current Downwind Drive stop will be relocated back to
Nierenberg Hall.
To view the revised schedules,
visit parking.ucsd.edu on the World
Wide Web or call (858) 534-RIDE and ask for a schedule to be mailed.
The university has contracted
with San Diego Transit to provide free, unlimited bus transportation
on designated bus routes within a specified zone around campus,
extending to Pacific Beach, Mission Beach, and to Balboa Avenue at
Genesee Avenue.
Faculty, staff, and students
are eligible to have a free UCSD/SDT bus sticker placed on their valid
UCSD photo ID card. The stickers and a free bus zone map may be
obtained at the Rideshare Operations Office, 201 University Center,
between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Also available at the Rideshare
Operations Office is information on other rideshare options, such as
the UCSD vanpool and carpool programs. For more information about
shuttles and ridesharing, call (858) 534-RIDE. |
