MEDIA ADVISORY
EVENT: UCSD Campus Wide Yard Sale open to the public!
DATE/TIME: May 23, 1999, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
LOCATION: The University of California, San Diego campus: parking lot 701 on
Voight Drive and parking lot 207 on Muir College Drive. In addition to the yard sale
booths, free visitor parking is available in both parking lots. Maps to the sites are
available at the North Point and Gilman Drive Information Centers.
DETAILS: In a spring cleaning sweep creating a humongous yard sale, items that
UCSD students dont want to move home after school years end or have no further
need for will be for sale including furniture, electronic equipment, clothes,
books, college dorm/apartment decorations, bikes and other miscellaneous
"stuff." Items not sold will be donated to local charities that work with
homeless teens. Donation bins also will be available for non-perishable foods.
BACKGROUND: Each school year during campus move-outs in the spring, UCSD
students trash more than 250 tons of "stuff," much of which is reusable and
recyclable. This year, for the first time, students and the community will benefit from a
yard sale, recycling goods and reducing waste.
