The Preuss School at the University of California, San Diego has announced its support for the “My School!” public awareness campaign launched today in an effort to mobilize parents statewide to find charter schools for their children. The California Charter Schools Association kicked off the campaign with the introduction of www.myschool.org, an interactive Web site that includes a map of California to help parents find a charter school near them.

The “My School!” campaign is part of a larger effort by the California charter school movement to help inform parents about their right to choose the best public school for their child. The campaign aims to strengthen support of the charter school movement among existing charter families while providing an online resource for parents who are searching for a high-quality charter public school in their community.

“We’re excited to be part of this much-needed campaign to engage parents and provide them with easy to find information on high-quality charter schools in their neighborhood,” said Preuss principal Doris Alvarez. “It’s imperative that parents have access to information about the educational options available to their children.”

The Preuss School is one of about 50 charter schools across the state that is incorporating “My School!” into school curriculum projects, community activities and creating dialogue among educators and parents about what our school means to them.

Preuss students involved in the school’s music technology class and the after school Pangaea online radio club worked enthusiastically to prepare a digital video and photographic slideshow demonstrating their pride in being Preuss School students. They prepared their promotional pieces under the supervision of Darren Thorn, a veteran music teacher and choir director.
