MEDIA ADVISORY POSTPONED ANNUAL PUMPKIN DROP EVENT: 28th Annual Muir College Pumpkin Drop, Carnival and Barbeque, University of California, San Diego DATE: Wednesday Nov. 5, 2003 TIME: 12:30 p.m. pumpkin drop; 11 a.m.-2 p.m. carnival and barbeque LOCATION: Muir quad between Tioga Hall
and Tenaya Hall at UCSD. (To REMARKS: The pumpkin, named Stock Market, will be dropped, ahem, by members of the Muir College Residents Executive Council from the 11th story of Tioga Hall, the tallest building on the Muir College campus. The 418-pound Stock Market is the largest pumpkin in Muir pumpkin-drop history. It will land on a plastic sheet marked off as a bingo grid. Inside the pumpkin will be an assortment of candy and also a plastic bat. Whoever predicts the square that the plastic bat lands on will win a prize. The pumpkin’s “splat” is measured each year. The largest splat in the history of the pumpkin drop occurred in 1995, when a 398-pound pumpkin spewed over 100 feet.
