San Diego Technology Professional
Selected for Rady School Scholarship

By Keri Minehart

The Rady School of Management at the University of California, San Diego, today announced Kevin Wagner as the recipient of the 2006 DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary-Athena FlexMBA Scholarship. Kevin is currently the director of technical service and product marketing manager for CardioDynamics, a medical technology provider. He will join the Rady School’s FlexMBA program for working professionals this fall.

The scholarship, which covers tuition for the two-year FlexMBA program, is sponsored in partnership with DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, an international law firm, and Athena, a UCSD-sponsored organization for executives in the San Diego technology, life sciences and business communities.

The DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary-Athena FlexMBA Scholarship is awarded to an individual who plays a key role in a technology or science-driven company in the San Diego region, and who shows outstanding personal leadership, intellect and integrity. The recipient must also demonstrate commitment to the technology sector and to the San Diego community. Kevin was chosen by a selection committee of representatives from DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary, Athena and the Rady School.

“We look forward to welcoming Kevin to the FlexMBA program,” said Robert S. Sullivan, dean of the Rady School. “His dual role in technology and marketing make him an ideal candidate for the Rady School, which itself is interdisciplinary.”

“I am honored and humbled to have been selected as the 2006 recipient of this scholarship,” said Kevin Wagner. “As a UCSD alumnus I am especially grateful and excited for the opportunity to earn an MBA from the Rady School of Management. I look forward to the unique challenge for personal and professional growth that the Rady School offers.”

Kevin Wagner holds a bachelor’s degree in bioengineering from UC San Diego. He is the director of technical service and product marketing manager for CardioDynamics, a San Diego company that provides noninvasive solutions to aid clinical assessment, medical diagnosis and treatment. At CardioDynamics, Kevin created the technical service department and co-designed a patented electrode that has become a major revenue source for the company. Kevin also co-authored a chapter in the American Association of Critical Care Nurses’ Procedure Manual for Critical Care: Noninvasive Hemodynamic Monitoring: Impedance Cardiography.

“By selecting Kevin for the scholarship, we are investing in someone who will continue to make positive contributions to San Diego’s business community,” said Lisa Haile, a partner at DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary and Athena board member. “Attending the Rady School will provide him with new educational and professional opportunities and the firm is proud to support his efforts.”

“Kevin has been actively involved in the technology industry,” said Jeanine Jacobson, executive director of UCSD Athena. “We are happy to recognize his accomplishments with the 2006 DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary- Athena FlexMBA scholarship.”
