UCSD SCHOOL OF MEDICINE TO GRADUATE 105 NEW PHYSICIANS
On Sunday, June 6, 48 women and 57 men will be awarded Doctor of Medicine
degrees at the UCSD School of Medicine commencement ceremony. Two of the students will
also receive doctorates (Ph.D.).
The graduation ceremony, to begin at 11 a.m. on the West Lawn of the UCSD School of
Medicine in La Jolla, will be highlighted by the commencement speech given by June E.
Osborn, M.D., president of the Josiah Macy, Jr. Foundation. The Foundation, a privately
endowed philanthropy in Manhattan, supports programs designed to improve the education of
health professionals in the interest of the health of the public, and to enhance the
representation of ethnic minorities in the health profession.
The range of specialties chosen by graduates is broad. Internal medicine, pediatrics
and family medicine are the top three specialty choices respectively.
Seventy-six of the graduates will do their residencies in California; 30 will be at
UCSD while 15 will go to other UC medical centers.
