Saks Fifth Avenue Targets Breast Cancer
You can shop 'til you drop and make an important contribution to breast cancer research
at the same time! Saks Fifth Avenue stores in San Diego and La Jolla are joining the fight
against breast cancer in a kickoff for Breast Cancer Awareness Month. As part of Saks'
nationwide campaign called "Fashion Targets Breast Cancer," the local stores will donate 2
percent of sales for all purchases made from September 23 to 26 to breast cancer research at
the UCSD Cancer Center.
As a bonus, from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, September 24, the Fashion Valley Saks store is
sponsoring a breakfast seminar with guest speakers from the UCSD Cancer Center. The
speakers and their topics are: Anne Wallace, M.D., chair of the UCSD Breast Health Program,
update on breast reconstruction; Cheryl Rock, Ph.D., R.D., co-director of the Women's Healthy
Eating and Living (WHEL) study, diet and cancer; and breast cancer survivor and patient
advocate Dani Grady, breast self-examination.
Also, fashion industry representatives will be at the seminar to talk about what's new for
fall, and there will be wardrobe consulting and cosmetic makeovers.
To reserve a seat at this special seminar, call 1-800-926-UCSD.
American Express will donate 2 percent of card sales, and General Motors will match the
amount donated by Saks. Metabolife Foundation and Henry's Marketplace are major local
contributors.
So mark your calendar for a trip to Saks Fifth Avenue in La Jolla or Fashion Valley
Center. For further information, call (619) 260-0030, Ext. 206.
