The School has been preparing students from around the world with rigorous courses in international politics, economics, business and foreign language since 1989. Its faculty and graduates are thoroughly entwined in the world's events. Among its professors are former diplomats recognized as among the foremost experts in their fields as well as academicians doing pioneering research on conflict resolution. IR/PS graduates - and there are
now more than 1,000 - have been traveling with the secretary of state,
meeting with Afghan President Although some at IR/PS are pursuing doctoral degrees, most are studying for a Masters of Pacific International Affairs (MPIA) degree, which includes a heavy emphasis on business and economics as well as political science. Among the core courses that MPIA students must pass are: finance, accounting, international economics, quantitative methods, globalization, and international politics and security. Students also select regions
on which to focus, ranging from China to Festivities for the school's

The Information Storage Industry Center (ISIC), under the direction of IR/PS Professor Roger Bohn, received a $4 million grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation. 13. IR/PS Professor and IGCC Director Susan Shirk is at the helm of a new program that will train the next generation of leaders to deal effectively with the continuing nuclear threat, thanks to a $2.9 million grant awarded by The National Science Foundation. 14. The Dean's Roundtable (DRT) speaker series has become one of the liveliest forums in Southern California for the discussion of international relations bringing distinguished experts from around the world. 15.
