UCSD BRIEFING ON U.S.-NORTH KOREA DIALOGUE EVENT: A media briefing to discuss a two-day conference and unofficial dialogue (June 1-3) between representatives of North Korea (Democratic People’s Republic of Korea), the U.S., and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC). DATE/TIME: 5 p.m., Tuesday, June 3, 2003. LOCATION: The Gardner Room at the Graduate School of International Relations and Pacific Studies (IR/PS) at the University of California, San Diego. BACKGROUND: The June 1-3 dialogue between representatives of DPRK and the U.S. was hosted by the Stanley Foundation, a nonprofit organization in Muscatine, Iowa, and the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation, based at UCSD. Participants in the conference include four present and former officials from the DPRK and 14 former officials and scholars from the U.S. Issues on the agenda for the meeting include the North Korean economy, security, and a possible Northeast Asian multilateral mechanism.
