Barry Jagoda, (858) 534-8567 Along with Chairman Alan Greenspan and five other colleagues, Bernanke determines overall monetary policy for the American economy. The Board of Governors also oversees the U.S. banks and has responsibility for maintaining the stability of the U.S. economy. Bernanke’s research has focused on monetary policy, the role of financial markets in economic fluctuations and the economics of the great Depression. Bernanke received his B. A. in economics from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in economics in 1979 from MIT. He is particularly interested in business cycles and macroeconomic policy. The co-author of “Inflation Targeting: Lessons from the International Experience,” Professor Bernanke is also an editor of the American Economic Review. Before becoming a member of the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, Bernanke was a professor of economics and public affairs and the chair of the economics department at Princeton University.
