PUBLIC POLICY INSTITUTE CEO TO DISCUSS STATE OF CALIF. DREAM IN
2000 AND BEYOND AT UCSD ROUNDTABLE JULY 12
Dr. David Lyon, founding president and CEO of the Public Policy Institute of
California (PPIC), will discuss "Looking at 2000: The State of the California
Dream" at the July 12 breakfast meeting of the University of California, San
Diegos Economics Roundtable. The event will be held from 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the UCSD
Faculty Club.
Lyon, an economist who has written widely on California economic and growth issues, has
led the PPIC since its founding in 1994 with an endowment by William R. Hewlett. The PPIC
is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to independent, nonpartisan research on
Californias economic, social, and political issues. Based in San Francisco, the PPIC
conducts research on some of the most pressing public policy issues currently facing
California, including immigration, welfare reform, educational quality, and health care.
Members of the news media are invited to attend the roundtable free of charge but

The UCSD Economics Roundtable, founded in 1991, provides a forum for local business and
civic leaders to exchange ideas and information with world-class economists, public policy
makers, and financial experts. Recent speakers hosted by the roundtable, which consists of
more than 100 San Diego civic, business, and governmental leaders, include real estate
tycoon Sam Zell, investment guru Lou Simpson, Microsoft trust-buster Richard Gilbert, and
Dr. Laura Tyson, (former) national economic adviser to President Clinton.
